The Spectacular Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta

Just this past year, I spent 6+ months with my father in Gainesville, Georgia. While I stayed there, we did a lot of sight-seeing and going out to discover new places and things to do. One of the places we visited was the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta.

This aquarium first opened on November 23, 2005. The entire aquarium spans over 13 acres of land. This aquarium is said to house 100,000+ animals. At the time of the aquarium opening, it was known to be the largest aquarium in the world.

I feel lucky to have been able to experience the largest aquarium and it also is the very first aquarium I had been to. My three-year-old daughter went with us as well as my father and my step-sister. The average cost of a ticket there can be anywhere from $25.00 to $35.00, depending on what shows you want to see.

They have a cafeteria and a large sitting area with tables and chairs where you can take a break from walking and eat some food. The prices for the food there were fairly decent, in my opinion. They actually had fresh fruit for sale which was impressive to me.

There are many exhibits you can wander through as you wait for a show to start. One of my favorites was the jellyfish exhibit. One of them had a flashing light that would fade into different colors and would make the jellyfish appear as that color. Rainbow jellyfish!

The AT&T Dolphin Tales Show is a wonderful and entertaining show! AT&T is the sponsor and boy did they sponsor a great show. It is a fantastic family show with the dolphins and their trainers. While sitting in the audience, which is similar to a stadium style seating arrangement, you can see the dolphins swimming around in the clear part of the tank.

The show was full of singing and acting. It had very good special effects and the trainers' costumes were very impressive. I loved the lighting for the show. It was amazing to see how well the dolphins played their parts. Dolphins are very smart!

If you have the chance to experience the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta, you should totally take advantage of that opportunity. I am glad I did! I would love to go again and so would my daughter.

The Georgia Aquarium is located at 225 Baker St. NW, Atlanta, Georgia 30313. Their hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, Saturday open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
