Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza in San Antonio
The Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza is one of America’s largest and longest running mariachi festivals. They are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their musical journey in San Antonio, Texas. This event is a weeklong celebration that presents the best performers in mariachi music to the audiences. As a part of this event, they are organizing unique events to showcase Mexican culture. They are also honoring musicians who have dedicated their life to mariachi music and have made lasting contributions to the tradition.
The Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza was started in 1995 with the intention of promoting awareness about mariachi music, Mexican culture, and diversity. They promote an positive image of Mexican tradition and culture.
During the annual event, mariachi students from all over the nation assemble here to study with Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, which is the best mariachi in the nation. They also contest in fierce mariachi groups and vocal competitions. Two student mariachi groups in Texas, named Mariachi Hermosura and Mariachi Nueva Generación, are an integral part of the extravaganza.
Lila Cockrell in San Antonio is one of the renowned venues for performing shows and concerts. The annual mariachi music event is conducted at the Lila Cockrell Theatre, which is located on the east bank of the famous River Walk at the Convention Center Complex. The convention center complex is known for its unique antler chandeliers and custom-made furnishings. The space is delightful, stylish, very quiet and, especially unique to San Antonio.
Most of the events during this extravaganza are free to public. For ticketed events, the prices range from $ 29 to $ 100.
