Get Ready for Chicago's Cupid Undie Run
Here is a rather uncomfortable way to gather money for a good cause, but if it helps someone then what is the harm? The people of Wrigleyville, Chicago affirm to this sentiment and thus, are ready to strip down to their undies for the Cupid Undie Run.
What is the Cupid Undie Run?
Cupid Undie Run is an annual event in which the participants are required to run a one-mile-long marathon in just their undergarments. The money generated from this run is donated to the Children's Tumour Foundation, thus financially aiding a large number of children. The Cupid Undie Run is organised every year by Chad Leathers and had been held in seventeen different cities before coming to Wrigleyville, Chicago. The participants have to be over 21 years of age.
How is the Cupid Undie Run beneficial?
The Cupid Undie Run is a great and fun way to generate a large amount of money for an extremely noble cause. The main message sent across by the event is that each one of us should be comfortable about our bodies and thus should have no hesitation in stripping down for a noble cause.
The money collected from the $30 ticket and donations made by participants go entirely for the benefit of the children from the Children's Tumour Foundation.
When and where will the Cupid Undie Run happen?
Hundreds of participants will be seen running around the Wrigley Field on the 7th of February 2015, in extremely cold climate and bare minimal clothing. The success of the event can easily be predicted by the response of the people as out of the 300 spots, 286 have already been taken.
The participants of the Cupid Undie Run also get to enjoy a pre-party before the run at Houndstooth Saloon, 3369 N. Clark St. thereafter, the mile long run commences at 2pm after which the awards are given out at 3:30pm.
The pre-party serves as a great platform for the participants to interact with each other before the run and builds up a comfort level among strangers who would later strip down in front of each other.
This year, the Cupid Undie Run is to be organized in 39 different cities and an estimated amount of $5 million will be generated. However when asked of the organizer, Chad Leathers, about this rather unusual way to collect money she said, “We wanted to do something different, not your typical 5k run."
Well if not anything, the Cupid Undie Run isn't typical for sure but this unique idea has been liked, appreciated and embraced by citizens all over America and millions of dollars have been collected through the mile-long run in the last two years. The Cupid Undie run is a much-awaited event for the citizens of Chicago as they wait expectantly to run in their undies in freezing temperatures, with strangers from all over the town.
