Fun in the Sun: Why Phoenix is the Place to Visit Right Now

If you are tired of cold weather and want to have fun in the sun, Phoenix is a great place to visit right now. The average high temperature here in the winter is 67 degrees. You can enjoy average temperatures in the high 70s during the spring and fall. Here are just a few more reasons to visit Phoenix next time the cold hits!

Outdoor Fun - Visit the Desert Botanical Garden to see wildflowers, cactus and a yucca forest. You can exercise on the trails in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve in Scottsdale on the northeast edge of Phoenix. There are trails here for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. If you play golf, play on the tree-lined fairways at the Raven Golf Club or enjoy a view of downtown Phoenix while you play on the course at Encanto Park. You can see lions, giraffes and bears at the Phoenix Zoo. If you want to combine your fun in the sun with fun in the water, head over to Canyon Lake approximately 40 miles from Phoenix and rent a boat.

Museums and Theaters - The Children's Museum of Phoenix and Childsplay are great places for family outings. Interactive exhibits at the museum include an art studio for little artists and a Book Loft where children can curl up and read. Childsplay is a children's theater in Tempe on the southeastern edge of Phoenix. The Arizona Capitol Museum, the Challenger Space Center and the Phoenix Art Museum are some of the other museums in the Phoenix area. If you want to enjoy music during your trip, visit Symphony Hall to attend a concert, ballet or opera.

Historic Sites - Enjoy the sunshine while you wander through Heritage Square. Buildings here date back to Victorian times. The Rosson House Museum is in a house that was built in 1895, and it is open for tours. A walking tour of Old Town Scottsdale will take you past buildings from the early 20th century. The Little Red Schoolhouse, Cavalliere's Blacksmith Shop and the Mexican Imports Shop are some of the buildings you will see.

Shopping and Dining - Visit Scottsdale Fashion Square to buy designer merchandise at their great selection of stores. Enjoy the nice weather while you buy discounted designer merchandise at the Phoenix Premium Outlets. This outdoor mall is in Chandler approximately 19 miles southeast of Phoenix. There are restaurants and specialty shops in downtown Scottsdale. Take a break from shopping here to enjoy the mild weather while you have burgers in the courtyard at Boondocks or Mexican food on the patio at the Old Town Tortilla Factory. If you want to eat at a place with a variety of restaurants under one roof, head over to the Fort McDowell Casino in Fort McDowell approximately 30 miles northeast of Phoenix. You can have prime ribs or crab legs at the Red Rock Buffet. Sandwiches and pizza are on the menu at A New York Deli. The Silver Platter offers burgers and hot dogs. You can play bingo or cards here after your meal.
