2 Sweet & Savory Treats to Enjoy in Jacksonville
Enjoy the Truffle Class at the Sweet Pete's Sweetest Destination on Earth each first Wednesday of the month throughout the year. It is a two hour class where students learn to make a gouache filling as well as shell molding and tempering. Students will leave this class with about half a pound of truffles.
Sweet Pete's came into being when in 2010 Peter Behringer sold the family business his mother had started and bought what is now Sweet Pete's Candy Shop.
A natural partnership started when Behringer's business was featured on the hit reality series The Profit. Marcus Lemonis, the entrepreneur on the show, chose to apply his expertise and money to Sweet Pete's. After appearing on this show Behringer bought a new location in a historic building that dated back to the early 1900's. It is now one of the largest candy shops in the Unites States with 23,000 square feet of space. He sells about 1,000 different types of chocolates in his line of candies.
The building, as well as housing the fully functioning factory, has an event center that has space for catered events, field trips, and birthday celebrations. Sweet Pete's would definitely make for a fun wedding location for the bride and groom with a sweet tooth! It also has a restaurant, bar, dessert bar and rooftop patio. There is also a science class (Sweet Pete’s Sweet Science Classes) which is a hands-on candy making session and an ideal idea for birthday parties and field trips.
The European Street Café
The European Street Café was established by the Zakra family in 1980. Lew and Mary began running the business with a standard of exemplary service, cleanliness and organization. As the decades unfolded the menu developed into one of international fare with croissants, ciabatta, and freshly baked baguettes (their specialties). Cheeses of French and Danish origin and other delicious European fare are on offer. The art, bakery and ethnic menu will keep you coming back.
They used to carry about 50 imported beers from around the world with ten different beers on tap. Now that has more than tripled and at least 200 draft beers are available. They hold the title of having the best beer selection in Northern Florida.
Now they have four of their quaint European type street cafes in the Jacksonville area with Jax Beach, Riverside, Beach Boulevard, and San Marco locations. This is a great spot for those who want to delve into a more international menu and try some new things.
