Enjoy the World Famous San Francisco Nutcracker Ballet

The Nutcracker show is a Christmas holiday tradition in San Francisco. The San Francisco Ballet Company performs the Nutcracker show every year. The Ballet Company is one of America's oldest professional ballet studios and has frequently enjoyed an extensive and amusing tradition of artistic “firsts” since its founding in 1933. They have been performing the first American productions of the Nutcracker and Swan Lake, as well as the first 20th-century American Coppélia. They are one of the three largest ballet companies in the United States.

What can you expect from the event

It is one of the classical holiday events that attracts and captivates audiences. The ballet contains a variety of costumes and pas de deux sequences, which capture the magic of the story.

This holiday season you could enjoy and have fun with your friends and family by experiencing the magnificent SFO Ballet’s international cast of excellent dancers. The Nutcracker show has been a holiday highlight in San Francisco since 1944. The program features about 70 company dancers. They charm close to 100,000 spectators each year through the month of December.

The Nutcracker shows the story of a young girl and a wooden nutcracker. On Christmas Eve, the nutcracker changes into a prince. The prince then takes the young girl to a magical land of sweets. On this magical fairyland, characters like the snow queen, dewdrop fairy, and sugar plum fairy greet the pair. The dancers perform various movements during their performance including the jeté (a jump during the dance with a unique movement performed with one leg), and battement (a movement in which the leg moves outward from the body and vice versa).
